Next Theatre is CAT I and CAT II AEA house with non-equity roles
each season. Auditions are by inviation. Please submitt headshot

Auditions:
Next Theatre Company seeks actors of the African Diaspora,
ages 18 to 55, for various roles as well as Caucasian males
age 18-23 for the role of a high schooler in THE
OVERWHELMING, playing spring 2009. See character
breakdowns below. Submit H/R by July 21. Auditions by invitation

Breakdowns:
Joseph Gasana:
40’s – 50’s, Rwandan pediatrician, gentle
and fatherly with a mysterious past.
Elise Kayitesi:
30’s, Rwandan, Joseph’s wife, cautious and watchful
yet emotionally fraught. Elise’s ferocity and strength
allow her to get what she needs while maintaining her secrets.
Samuel Mizinga:
30’s-40’s, Rwandan government official. Extremely
charming, warm and savvy with a frightening fire behind this
veneer.
Gerard:
17-20 yrs, Rwandan house servant for the American Exley family.
Smart, curious and careful, Gerard lives a double-life in the
roles of servant and rising political rebel. He is easy to like
and fun to get into trouble with.
Geoffrey
Exley: 17 yrs, Caucasian American son of the professor Jack
Exely. Gifted, quiet and defiant, Geoffrey is soon in over his
head in a foreign culture with Gerard as his guide.
Emiritha
(a woman at a nightclub) and other roles: 20’s, Rwandan,

Submission Policy:
Next Theatre produces socially provocative, artistically adventurous
work.We do not produce realistic family issue or dysfunctional
relationship plays, plays with "kitchen sink" (i.e.,
traditional) realism, plays that feel like situational comedies,
or plays that aren't adventurous or daring in their form AND
content. If
you are not sure if your play fits what we are looking for,
please send a query letter and a synopsis of your play. If we
are interested, we will contact you for a 10-page sample. If
your play fits our style and mission statement, please submit
a 10-page sample. If we are interested in reading more, we will
contact you for the entire script. Please
