2006/2007 HISTORY

Helen
By Ellen McLaughlin
Chicago area premiere
September 14 – October 15, 2006

The Trojan War’s been over for seven years… so why is Helen, the “face that launched a thousand ships”, waiting for her husband in an Egyptian hotel room getting pedicures and watching the Weather Channel? It’s a day in the life of the world’s most beautiful woman, punctuated by visits from a globe-trotting cow, the Goddess Athena, and one very recalcitrant servant. “One part gleefully anachronistic comedy and two parts philosophical rumination on the futility of war and the dangers of icon worship.” – Variety

Miss Witherspoon
By Christopher Durang
Chicago area premiere
Directed by Jason Loewith
November 16 – December 17, 2006

Poor Miss Witherspoon… after her untimely death, she arrives in the afterlife and refuses to be reincarnated, much to the chagrin of her quirky caseworker Maryamma, a black woman who claims to be Jesus, and Gandalf from Lord of the Rings. Why bother saving the world when it’s already such a mess? A witty, wacky work about our cultural malaise in terrifying times, complete with a surprisingly happy ending as an aperitif. “This is easily New York’s funniest show!” – John Simon; top 10 lists of 2005, Newsday and Time Magazine.
